While the specific names for the various elements of the technical format paper vary somewhat from institution to institution, and discipline to discipline, and is dependant upon the type of study / experiment one is conducting, professional academic researchers and writers are prepared to give you whatever assistance you need.  Be aware, though, that they are not prepared to conduct your experiments for you!  If your research project must incorporate data from an experiment you have conducted in a college laboratory (ie., a biology lab where you grow plants and make predictions and observations in order to study Mendelian genetics), or in the field (ie., results you have collected from questionnaires and surveys), you MUST be prepared to provide all raw data necessary for the completion of your paper.

Scientific Format Research Paper Title Page - A title must effectively identify the content of your paper.  The elements of a title page typically include the nature of the study, the species used, and the place of field studies.  In addition to the title, your title page may include include your name, your professor's name, name of course and lab section, institution, and the date.

Technical Format Research Paper Abstract - The abstract is a single, comprehensive paragraph that summarizes your entire paper.  Simply state the primary objectives of the investigation, the methodology you used, a summary of the results, and a statement of your principal conclusions.

An abstract should take no more than about one- third to one-half of a single-spaced, typed page.  Your paper's title and your name should appear as a header, at the top of the page.  Write your paper's abstract on its own page, single-spaced, and in past the tense.

Technical Research Paper Introduction - Introduce your subject / topic of study, and provide background information so that your reader understands the context of your study.  Clearly state the problem or issue at hand.  Offer a brief summary of past studies and information that inspired your research.  Write this section with great attention to detail.  Assume that your reader knows nothing about your study.  Be specific.  Cite sources and discuss why you did your research.  Conclude with a clear, concise statement of your hypothesis.  Be sure to make proper references, citing them by author, date and page, in the style you have chosen.  This section summarizes all of your scholarly research for your scientific research paper, including what you have read in class / lab, and what you have learned through literary investigation.

The introduction to your scientific research paper and remaining elements of your technical research paper project should begin on a new page, in double-spaced type, and are not limited one page.

Materials and Scientific Method - State your methods, step-by-step, so that  another could repeat your work exactly.  Illustrate where, when (in chronological order), and how you did your work.  Mention the equipment and techniques used by name.  State exact specifications and quantities of materials.

Technical Research Paper Results - In this section, objectively state precisely what you found in your
experiment, but include only observations.  Do not analyze the observations or findings.

Graphs, diagrams, simple drawings, short tables, and even raw data should be  placed at the end of your paper in the Figures and Tables section.  Refer to them in your text, for instance, as "see Figure 1 on page x".  Report your results chronologically, as well.

Discussion - This is the most important part of your scientific research paper and should bring together all of the other sections.  It may seem redundant to re-state parts of your introduction, procedure, and results, but it is an effective way to elucidate your reader.  This is where you tie the elements of your technical format paper together, and make sense of your experiment, citing specific reasons for its success or failure.

Literature Cited - This is a list of references actually quoted or referred to in your technical format paper, arranged alphabetically, in proper style and format.  Begin the Literature Cited section on a new page. Double space .

Tables and Figures - In this final section of your technical research paper or scientific format research paper, place all of the tables followed by all of the figures.  Each table or figure is labeled with a title and is followed by a legend (a statement or paragraph) that makes it completely understandable without having to refer to the text.
